Bling It On

For the past few months I’ve been tossing out bird seed in my driveway hoping to catch the eyes of some nervous mourning doves so they would make it a habit to stop by each day for some free food. During the month of July, employees of Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife from around the state participate in a nationwide effort to band mourning doves to monitor their population. It’s a fun project that gets done mostly on their own time at home.

After seeing birds on a regular basis, they get introduced to the wire cage with no doors on it. They can come and go as they please.

Wire doors get installed with one way funnels and the waiting begins…
